Troubleshooting Guide: Known Website Bugs & Workarounds

The TV News Archive’s website officially launched on May 18th, 2026 and we continue making improvements to the site. Below is a list of known bugs and suggested fixes. If you encounter a different issue or need further help, please contact us.

1. Place a loan request for a full evening news broadcast

Bug: It is not currently possible for a user to request an evening news broadcast in full (rather than requesting the individual story segments). Bug #258.

Fix: If you would like to place a request for a full broadcast, please contact us with the date and network of the broadcast(s). For public patrons, the processing fees are $60.00 per broadcast.

2. “Media Not Found”

Bug: The error message “Media Not Found” displays when trying to view a video. This error occurs when the abstract record is not properly linked to its corresponding video file.

Fix: Please contact us with the network, date, and Segment ID so that we can attempt to recover the video file.

3. Spinning Wheel on Video Player

Bug: A spinning wheel persists when attempting to play a video.

Fix: Wait 5-10 minutes and then refresh the page. Usually, the video needs time to process before it will play. If the video still does not play after 10 minutes, please contact us with the network, date, and Segment ID of the effected video.

Resolved Bugs

The following bugs are now resolved. Please contact us if you experience these resolved bugs.

Single Sign-On Frozen Redirect [resolved]

Bug: When an academic user at a sponsoring college or university logs in using SSO, they reach a page that says “Login successful! Redirecting…” but the page does not automatically refresh. Bug #168.

Fix: Refresh the page manually or navigate to another page, but do not log out.

Academic users misassigned as public user [resolved]

Bug: When an academic user at a sponsoring college or university signs in with SSO for the first time, sometimes the user’s account type is misassigned as a public user. When the academic user tries to check-out a video clip, they will encounter a page asking them to pay processing fees before viewing the segment. This is an error as academic users do not need to pay processing fees to view content. Bug #325

Fix: Please contact us so that we can manually update your account type.
